1. North Pole, Alaska 

Yup, there’s a town called North Pole, and when it comes to quintessential places to celebrate Christmas in, it definitely takes the cake! 

Located in Alaska just a short drive away from the city of Fairbanks, North Pole is said to be the place where “the spirit of Christmas lives year-round.” As you stroll through its downtown, you’ll be treated to a world of streets decorated in gigantic candy canes, colorful twinkling lights, and just about every Christmas motif you can think of! Reindeer are a thing here, too, and there’s even a house that’s supposed to be the “official” home to Santa Claus! 

As if that weren’t enough to convince you to visit North Pole, it is also a wonderful place to experience the Northern Lights. Sightings inside the town are possible, but for even higher chances, you can head over to Chena Lake Recreation Area on the outskirts, where sightings are almost guaranteed! 

2. Duluth, Minnesota 

Duluth is perfect for those looking to get that “winter wonderland” vibe. 

Set in Minnesota, this incredibly charming town is home to Bentleyville, one of the world’s most magical displays of light. During the holiday season, this locale becomes host to plenty of Christmas-themed events and festivities, most of which are taken to the next level and will make you wonder if you were somehow transported into the Grinch’s Whoville! 

A few of the can’t-miss activities in Duluth include hopping on the scenic train along Lake Superior for all sorts of wintery views in nature and attending the annual Christmas Village, which takes place at the expansive gardens of the Glensheen Mansion!

If you’re there on a Tuesday, make sure to pop by the Fairlawn Mansion, as they open their doors to guests, and you can come and enjoy some of the most impressive Christmas light displays in the entire world!

3. New York City, New York 

New York City is quite possibly one of the most classic Christmas destinations in the United States, and for good reason!

A few of these include checking out the annual Winter Village at Bryant Park, admiring the gigantic Christmas Tree at Rockefeller Center, enjoying the Empire State Building’s holiday light show, and going ice skating at Central Park. 

Once you’ve ticked those things off the bucket list, you’ll find plenty more to keep you entertained, especially if you’re also in the mood to do Christmas in a more local way. One can’t-miss activity is spending a day going Christmas Market hopping—with so many spread all over the city, this is also a great chance to explore different neighborhoods! 

The Union Square Holiday Market, the Columbus Circle Holiday Market, the Grand Central Holiday Fair, and The Market at Westfield World Trade Center are all incredible and worth visiting.

4. Leavenworth, Washington 

Want to feel as though you were transported into Europe this holiday season? If you’re keen to experience a Christmas in Germany but don’t necessarily want to change continents, the town of Leavenworth in Washington is as close as you can get to the real thing! 

This cozy village sits in the heart of the mesmerizing Cascade Mountains, and thanks to its German roots and heritage, you’ll get to feel as though you were inside an actual Bavarian village. Quaint half-timbered houses line the streets here with views of the mountains surrounding them – add a few twinkling lights and all sorts of Christmas décor, and you may just get to feel like you walked into a snow globe! 

Aside from simply marveling at the views, there are plenty of events throughout December in town, including gingerbread house competitions, live music at the gazebo, Santa letter stations, and plenty more in ‘The Village of Lights‘.

Moreover, there’s also a Christmas Market held annually that is inspired by those in Bavaria, with vendors selling all sorts of crafts and items to be back home. Of course, craft beer and European snacks are also included in the experience!

5. Vail, Colorado 

Vail is incredibly festive during Christmas, transforming into a winter wonderland with twinkling lights, snow-covered streets, and charming European-inspired architecture. The town embraces the holiday spirit with events like Vail Holidays, featuring tree lighting ceremonies, carolers, and holiday markets.

The scenic mountain backdrop, world-class skiing, and cozy alpine lodges create the perfect setting for a magical winter escape. Ice skating, snowshoeing, and sleigh rides add to the festive charm, while heated outdoor patios and fire pits invite visitors to relax and enjoy the crisp mountain air, making Vail a quintessential Christmas destination.

6. Bethlehem, Pennsylvania 

While it may not be the actual *Bethlehem*, this town of the same name in Pennsylvania sure knows how to celebrate Christmas the way it’s meant to! 

Like many of the best Christmas destinations in the United States, Bethlehem still stays true to its German roots, which come in full fledge during the holiday season. While here, you’ll get to enjoy a plethora of festive activities, ranging from traditional Christmas markets to a Christmas City Village inspired by German towns. You’ll pretty much be spoiled for choice when it comes to choosing what to see and do during your time here. 

Whatever you do, make sure you don’t miss out on checking the Christkindlmarkt, a classic Christmas market where you’ll find hundreds of stalls where you can buy goodies to bring back home, and plenty of treats to eat on the spot. There’s live music and entertainment, so you can expect to spend several hours here enjoying the ambiance! 

7. Helen, Georgia 

This Bavarian-inspired town in the Blue Ridge Mountains offers a taste of Alpine Christmas in the South. Helen’s Christkindlmarkt, held on the weekends leading up to Christmas, features traditional German foods, handcrafted gifts, and festive music.

The town’s Lighting of the Village ceremony kicks off the season, illuminating the Bavarian-style buildings with thousands of lights. Visitors can enjoy carriage rides through the decorated streets, visit Santa’s workshop, or take a candlelight stroll.

Nearby Unicoi State Park offers special holiday activities, including breakfast with Santa and elf-guided hikes. The combination of mountain scenery, German-inspired architecture, and Southern hospitality creates a unique and welcoming Christmas atmosphere.

8. Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin 

Tucked away in Wisconsin, Elkhart Lake is a gorgeous lake-side town that brims with holiday vibes as soon as the season starts. 

While it may look like any town at first, Elkhart is a truly special destination on the list because it hosts one of the best Christmas Markets in the United States: The Old World Christmas Market. 

It’s set right by the lake, and eating all the delicious treats and admiring the decorations are definitely reasons to go. The shopping opportunities here are simply out of this world.  

As you stroll through the stands, you’ll find authentic crafts by artisans from all over the world, giving you the chance to go window shopping (or actual shopping!) as though you were traveling through different corners of the world. 9. Woodstock, Vermont

This quintessential New England town celebrates the holidays with its annual Wassail Weekend (13 to 15 December 2024). The event features horse-drawn wagon rides, a holiday craft fair, and performances of “A Christmas Carol” at the town hall. The highlight is the Wassail Parade, featuring over 50 horses and riders in holiday costumes and period dress. Historic homes and farms open their doors for tours, allowing visitors to experience a traditional Vermont Christmas.

The town green is illuminated with twinkling lights, and local shops offer warm cider and other holiday treats. Nearby Billings Farm & Museum hosts special holiday events, showcasing 19th-century Christmas traditions. 10. McAdenville, North Carolina

Known as “Christmas Town USA,” this small town of about 650 residents puts on one of the country’s most impressive Christmas light displays. Nearly every home and building in this small town just west of Charlotte participates in the annual lighting tradition, which began in 1956. Over 500,000 lights adorn trees, homes, and landmarks, creating a magical 1.3-mile driving route.

Visitors can walk along Christmas Town Lake, where trees wrapped in red, white, and green lights reflect off the water. The town also features a yule log ceremony, visits from Santa, and seasonal concerts. Despite its small size, McAdenville attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors each year, showcasing the power of community spirit in creating a truly special Christmas experience.

11. Solvang, California

This Danish-inspired village brings European Christmas charm to California. Solvang’s Julefest celebration runs throughout December, featuring a tree-lighting ceremony, a holiday concert series, and the popular Julefest Parade.

1. Rocky Mountain National Park

Location: Colorado

It’s not exactly a secret that Rocky Mountain National Park is one of the most beautiful parks in the entire country, but once the temperatures start to drop, this gorgeous place in Colorado turns into a wonderland for glorious views, incredible nature draped in autumn hues, and some of the best opportunities to see wildlife up close.

The dramatic landscape of Rocky Mountain National Park was carved by water and humongous glaciers, making the scenery look like something out of a painting.

As you explore, you’ll stumble across some of the highest peaks in the country, get treated to views of hundreds of alpine lakes and streams, and get to walk over some of the dreamiest hiking trails in the world.

Even though fall does get a little chilly at Rocky Mountain National Park, it’s highly considered the best time of the year to visit for two reasons: One is that fall foliage covers the gorgeous Trail Ridge Road, which is one of the most scenic highways in the United States and seeing it blanketed by golden aspens is a scene unlike any other.

Secondly, fall brings in the elk rut, which is when elk arrive in the area for mating season. Not only will you be able to see hundreds of them up close, but you’ll also be able to attend the annual Elk Fest organized by the park to learn everything about these mountain-roaming creatures through music, live entertainment, storytelling, and interactive activities.

Entrance Fee: $30 per private vehicle, valid for one day, or $35 per vehicle, valid for seven days

Seasonal Closures: Rocky Mountain National Park runs a timed entry system over the busy summer months, ending October 20, 2024. After this time, you can enter all park areas without reservations. Adverse weather conditions may close roads at any time, though. Keep up to date on NPS Twitter.

2. Shenandoah National Park

Location: Virginia

Tucked away in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia, Shenandoah National Park is a mecca for those looking for crisp mountain air and glorious fall foliage. Being only an hour from Washington, D.C., it’s no surprise it’s one of the most popular national parks on the East Coast!

Fall foliage in Shenandoah National Park usually begins in early October and lasts until mid-November, making the season quite long.

During your visit, you can explore the park in various ways. A favorite for those limited on time is driving the scenic Skyline Road, Virginia, which is considered a treat to the eyes any time of the year but looks especially stunning when fall colors drape the scenery.

Hiking is another must. Shenandoah boasts 516 miles worth of trails, with 101 miles being part of the famous Appalachian Trail! Throughout your hiking adventures, you’ll be able to enjoy fall colors in their full splendor and see plenty of waterfalls, mountains, caverns, and more.

Entrance Fee: $30 per private vehicle, valid for seven days

Seasonal Closures: Fall is the peak season for Shenandoah, so do expect queuing and crowds, especially on weekends. You can check out precise conditions on their webcams!

The park stays open throughout winter; however, icy conditions can close Skyline Drive from mid-November through February. Dickey Ridge Visitor Center and lodges within the park close in late November. Most campsites close on October 30, while Big Meadow stays open until November 30 for magnificent fall camping.

3. Acadia National Park

Location: Maine

Acadia National Park definitely takes the cake when it comes to quintessential fall destinations on the East Coast.

Even though Acadia is gorgeous year-round, there’s no better time to visit than the fall months, especially if vibrant autumn colors are what you’re after.

Home to a humongous offering of glorious natural landscapes ranging from woodlands to mountains, lakes, and dramatic coastlines, this is one of the best national parks to visit in the fall if you’re after picturesque views and a variety of recreational activities.

Once September creeps in, Acadia starts showing beautiful fall colors ranging from crisp gold to vibrant reds. Peak season usually happens around mid-October, but even if you can’t make it during that time, you’ll still find a wonderland of colors if you visit a bit earlier or later.

Some of the best ways to make the most out of fall in Acadia include hiking to Cadillac Mountain for panoramic views, driving the Park Loop Road across the park, hiking the Bubbles Nubble Loop to strike off a variety of landscapes, and exploring Eagles Lake by kayak or canoe.

Entrance Fee: $30 per person, valid for 7 days

Seasonal Closures: Not all parts of the park are open over winter; it’s best to check the winter closures schedule before planning a visit from December to April. Most campgrounds close by October 14/21, while Park Loop Road closes on December 1.

4. Arches National Park

Location: Utah

Perhaps a desert isn’t the first thing that comes to mind when you think of visiting national parks in the fall, but we absolutely had to include Arches National Park in the list because this time of the year is the best time to explore this gem in Utah.

Weather-wise, the temperatures in Arches start to drop in autumn, making it an ideal time for hiking and exploring.

The trails at this Mighty 5 national park are usually mild and perfect for introducing visitors to hiking in the desert. Visitors can also see colossal natural arches and strange rock formations that look almost out of this world.

Some of the best things to do at Arches National Park include hiking to Landscape Arch to see the largest natural rock arch in the world, experiencing a sunrise at Delicate Arch (this is the arch depicted on Utah’s license plates!), driving the Arches Scenic Drive, admiring the scenery at Park Avenue Point, standing under Double Arch, and more.

Entrance Fee: $30 per private vehicle, valid for seven days

Seasonal Closures: The park is open throughout the year, 24 hours a day. However, if you’re visiting before October 31, you’ll also need a timed entry permit.

5. Great Smoky Mountains National Park

Location: North Carolina and Tennessee

With so many species of trees within its boundaries, Great Smoky Mountains National Park is another wonderland to visit if you want to see fall tones. Seeing vibrant hues of yellows, oranges, and reds backdropped by snow-capped mountains is definitely something everyone should experience at least once in their lives!

Some of the best things to do in the Smokies to fully experience the season are hiking to see a few of the park’s waterfalls (they look absolutely stunning surrounded by autumn colors!), driving the scenic roads that traverse the park (Newfound Gap Road, Morton Overlook, and Clingman’s Dome Road are all amazing), and renting a cabin inside the park to enjoy your very own personal slice of fall in the park.

Fall also brings a plethora of fun festivals, including the Dollywood Harvest Festival, which celebrates the harvest season; the Fall Harvest at the Island, which honors the fall; and the Octoberfest at Ober, which features the area’s German heritage.

Fall foliage usually begins around early October and can be viewed throughout the month until early November. It usually peaks in mid-October.

Entrance Fee: There is no entry fee to Great Smoky Mountains National Park (from 2023, be aware a Parking Tag system will be implemented – applicable if you’ll be parking your car for more than 15 minutes)

Seasonal Closures: The park is open 24 hours a day, though there can be seasonal road closures due to weather conditions in winter – stay in touch with current information on Twitter @SmokiesRoadsNPS. Some campgrounds close between the end of October and the end of November, Cades Cove and Smokemount are open year-round.

6. Cuyahoga Valley National Park

Location: Ohio

As the only national park in Ohio, Cuyahoga Valley is one of the best national parks to visit in the fall if you’d rather check out somewhere that’s not on everyone’s usual radar.

Here, you’ll enjoy crisp evenings and bright sunny days, making this time of year ideal for hiking and exploring (and you’ll find fewer bugs than in the summer!).

Fall foliage usually peaks around the third week of October, but you’ll be able to enjoy the colors pretty much all month, making it one of the prettiest scenic drives in Ohio.

One of the favorite ways for visitors to explore Cuyahoga is by hopping on the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad Train, which, as its name may have clued you in, is a train that traverses the valley and provides some of the most beautiful views the entire park has to offer.

Another way to explore is to hike a few trails inside the park. There are over 120 miles of them on the menu. If you’re limited on time, we recommend focusing on the Brandywine Falls trail to see a 65-foot waterfall, the Virginia Kendall Ledges Trail to walk down sandstone rock “ledges,” and the Pine Grove Trail to see beautiful colors.

7. Mount Rainier National Park

Location: Washington

Boasting an active volcano and the most glaciated mountain in the continental United States, Mount Rainier is another wonderful option in PNW when choosing what national parks to visit in the fall.

Mount Rainier is special because it encompasses many different ecosystems, ranging from lowland forests to wetlands and alpine tundra. Moreover, there are 26 named glaciers here and over 1,000 species of plants and animals, many of which are incredibly endangered and have found a safe haven inside the park.

Once the fall season begins, Mount Rainier bursts into life with different activities. An easy day trip from Seattle, a must-do is going on a naturalist-guided walk to spot Roosevelt Elk during the breeding season in September. Other fun things to do during the autumn include going berry picking and mushroom foraging.

As for hiking, some of the best fall hikes to try include Reflection Lakes, The Morain Trail, Third Burroughs, and the Knapsack Pass. Horseback riding is also a wonderful way to explore the park.

Seasonal Closures: The park is open year-round. However, it is recommended that visitors check road conditions before setting out. Many of the visitor centers and campgrounds close by mid-October.

Note that timed entry was introduced to Mount Rainier NP in 2024; summer special conditions for Sunrise Corridor and Paradise Corridor should be lifted by early September and should not impact your fall driving plans

8. Bryce Canyon National Park

Location: Utah

Bryce Canyon National Park is guaranteed to please if you’re more in the mood to escape fall altogether and experience an entirely different landscape.

This striking national park in Utah is famed for being home to the most extensive collection of hoodoos in the world, but due to its location in the desert, summers tend to get scorching hot and winters particularly cold, making fall an ideal time to visit for bearable temperatures.

While there aren’t any fall-themed activities during the season, fall offers a wonderful chance to explore some of Bryce Canyon’s most famous parts without the hordes of crowds, but before the frostiest days of winter.

Some of the best ways to make the most out of your visit include hiking the Queen’s Garden to Navajo Loop, following the Fairyland Loop, and joining a ranger-led program to understand the park’s unique geology fully.

Seasonal Closures: The park is open year-round, and North Campground is always open (no reservations, first come, first served from 7 October); Sunset Campground closes from November 1 – April 14.

9. Grand Canyon National Park

Location: Arizona

With the summer crowds dwindling at the beginning of September, fall is a beautiful time of the year to visit the United States’ most iconic national park.

Not only will you see one of the country’s most internationally recognized natural landscapes without so many people around, but fall means crisp air and much more comfortable temperatures for hiking.

Even though the Grand Canyon isn’t exactly a destination for foliage, if you want to add that to your itinerary, the North Rim section of the park has plenty of patches of golden aspens.

This brings in a unique perspective of the landscape, which looks absolutely gorgeous when splashed with bright yellow tones, especially in late September and early October.

Moreover, fall is also a great time to see the Grand Canyon’s wildlife. With cooler temperatures and crowds gone, animals like elk, mule deer, chipmunks, bats, and plenty more reptiles start showing up on trails and even around some of the lodges and campsites at the park.

Seasonal Closures: The South Rim is open year-round, with reservations still recommended for lodging camping throughout the fall. North Rim closes on October 15.

10. Glacier National Park

Location: Montana

Home to vast glaciers and over 1 million acres of striking scenery that bursts to life this time of the year with glorious hues of gold, visiting Glacier National Park during the fall is magical.

You’ll be treated to views of jagged peaks, mild meadows, and cascading waterfalls here. As if that weren’t enough, wildlife encounters are more common during the fall season when crowds are gone and temperatures are mild, so you’ll get to spot different species like bears, hawks, and golden eagles.

1. Forest Heritage National Scenic Byway

• Distance: 76 miles
• Time Needed: 1-2 days

The Forest Heritage National Scenic Byway is a stretch of road that will take you through the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina, giving you the opportunity to explore the breathtaking mountain scenery along the way. There are a number of outdoor activities and scenic views to explore along the way, including the Pisgah National Forest, Looking Glass Falls, and more. 

While if you are driving straight through this byway could be driven in just a few hours, we recommend taking a day or two to make stops along the way and enjoy the nature around you. Some of the most notable stops include Sliding Rock, a great stop for swimming, Looking Glass Rock, and Sunburst Falls. In addition to these sights, you can enjoy a number of hiking trails, including John Rock Hike, Moore Cove Falls Hike, quiet lunch at the Coontree Picnic Area & Restrooms, and spend some time at Lake Logan. 

If you are looking for somewhere to stay during your visit, consider Davidson Campground, there are 160 campsites available for visitors, and the campground is available all year round. 

Pro tip: Due to some of the high elevations throughout the mountains, it may be difficult to navigate if traveling by RV or mobile camper. 

When to go: The weather conditions of Pisgah National Forest are particularly beautiful during the Spring and Summer months.

2. Mountain Waters Scenic Byway

• Distance: 61 miles
• Time Needed: 1-2 days

The Mountain Waters Scenic Byway will take you from Highlands, North Carolina, to Almond, North Carolina, and travels through the Nantahala National Forest. As you travel through the forest, you will come across a number of attractions and sites that make for excellent stops along your route. 

As you begin your travel, about 4.5 miles outside of Highlands, you will reach Cliffside Lake Recreation Area. If your family enjoys the outdoors and fun activities, you could potentially spend hours or even a full day just here alone. The area offers swimming, fishing, and picnic areas to enjoy a packed family lunch. 

Additional popular attractions along the way include Bridal Veil Falls, Van Hook Glade, Rufus Morgan Trail, and the Nantahala River. In the Nantahala River, you can partake in trout fishing and white water rafting in the Nantahala River Gorge. Stop for a picnic lunch at the Ferebee Memorial Picnic Area and enjoy the views while you relax and recharge to continue exploring. 

As you come to the end of the Mountain Waters Scenic Byway, you will run into Fontana Lake, where you can enjoy a number of additional water activities, including swimming, water skiing, and kneeboarding. 

When to go: Because of the amount of time that you may spend in and around water on this scenic drive, we recommend visiting during the warmest months of the year, June-August. 

3. Ocoee Scenic Byway

• Distance: 30 miles
• Time Needed: 1-2 days

The Ocoee Scenic Byway is the first designated National Forest in the nation as it takes you through the Cherokee National Forest. Along this drive, you will see a number of natural wonders, including the mountainscapes of Chilhowee Mountain, Lake Ocoee, and the whitewater Ocoee River.

As you travel through Cherokee National Forest, you will encounter a number of attractions and stopping points, including Big Frog, Chilhowee Mountains, and Sugarloaf Mountain Park. As you make your drive, you can take in the sights, and with several pull-offs along the route, you will be sure to get some great pictures with your family and friends. 

If you are looking for fun outdoor activities to enjoy, popular options include Parksville Beach, where your family can enjoy swimming and lounging on the beach and whitewater rafting and kayaking in the Ocoee River.

When to go: North Carolina temperatures are rather comfortable year-round, with the coolest months averaging in the 50s and the warmest months peaking in the 90s, so you can enjoy this drive at any time of the year, but remember that river temperatures can be very cold in the cooler months of the year so if you plan to get into the water it is best to visit during the Summer months. 

4. Indian Lakes Scenic Byway

• Distance: 75 miles
• Time Needed: 1-2 days

The Indian Lakes Scenic Byway is a 75-mile stretch that will take you through the Nantahala National Forest and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. This 75-mile route is in Western North Carolina along the Tennessee border.

Along the drive, you will see beautiful scenery and a number of stunning lakes, and at the end of the byway, you will come into the quaint town of Robbinsville, where you will enjoy some great local eats. 

As you drive through the Indian Lakes Scenic Byway, there are a number of can’t-miss stops along the way, including Fontana Lake, Lake Santeetlah, and of course, the Fontana Dam. The Fontana Dam is the tallest dam east of the Rocky Mountains. Here, you can also enjoy the world-famous Appalachian Trail and catch an incredible view of the Dam from the Observation Deck. 

Looking for somewhere to stay? The Fontana Village Resort offers an excellent family-friendly environment for a comfortable place to stay and a number of fun activities such as outdoor pools, hiking trails, and even a lazy river. 

As you complete the Indian Lakes Scenic Byway, you will end up in Robbinsville. Robbinsville offers its own number of activities and adventures, such as Graham County Park, the Stecoah Valley Cultural Arts Center, and the Joyce Kilmer Memorial Forest. If you are hungry after your explorations for the way, you can enjoy some delicious eating at The Hub or the Moonshiners Steakhouse. 

When to go: Because the main focus of the Indian Lakes Scenic Byway is the scenery and views along the way, this drive makes for an excellent adventure at any time of the year. Seeing the leaves change in the forests in the Fall is a particularly special view. 

5. Outer Banks Scenic Byway

• Distance: 138 miles
• Time Needed: 2-3 days

The Outer Banks are the islands off the coast of the state of North Carolina that separate the Atlantic Ocean from the mainland. The Outer Banks Scenic Byway is a scenic drive that will take you along the North Carolina Coast.

Simply driving along the coast is an adventure to enjoy all on its own, but there are a number of fun attractions and stops to make along the way that will really amplify your experience. Popular stops along the route include the Bodie Island Lighthouse, the Canadian Hole, the Graveyard of the Atlantic Museum, and the Core Sound Waterfowl Museum and Heritage Center. 

In addition to these attractions, you can embark on two ferry rides as you travel the Outer Banks Scenic Byway. One of these ferry rides is completely free for riders. This ferry will take you from Hatteras to the Ocracoke Islands. The other ferry ride will take you from Ocracoke Island to Down Easts Cedar Island, but there is a toll on this ride. 

When to go: Because the Outer Banks is primarily beach-focused, it is best to travel this byway during the Summer months to enjoy the full experience. 

6. Blue Ridge Parkway

• Distance: 469 miles
• Time Needed: 3-4 days

While we have certainly discussed some incredible scenic drives in North Carolina, we have saved the best for last (in our opinion).

The Blue Ridge Parkway is a long stretch of road that travels along the Blue Ridge Mountains and is part of the National Park Service as it connects the Shenandoah National Park and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The Blue Ridge Parkway has become known as “America’s Favorite Scenic Drive.”

While traveling the entire 469-mile distance will certainly prove to be an incredible adventure, the great thing about the Blue Ridge Parkway is that you can have an unforgettable experience along any stretch of the parkway, no matter the distance. 

A drive along the Blue Ridge Parkway opens the opportunity to enjoy a number of fun outdoor activities, including hiking, biking, and stops along the way to enjoy scenic views. There are a number of can’t-miss stops on the Blue Ridge Parkway, including Craggy Gardens, Mount Mitchell, the Blue Ridge Parkway Visitor Center, Mount Pisgah, and the Folk Art Center. 

When to go: The Blue Ridge Parkway is an excellent drive at any time of the year. The best part is that depending on the season you visit, you will have an entirely different experience each and every time.
